March 2021

This Month's Organization:

This organization is close to the library’s heart because it is local, with an office in Dayton, and they are in desperate need of shawls for the families of those who have lost their loved ones.

Many donor family members feel alone and empty at the hospital after they are given the news that their loved one has passed away. Although organ, eye and tissue donation offers a positive light on a tragic situation, families are still forced to face the painful reality of leaving the hospital without their loved one. Life Connection of Ohio tries to ease that pain by offering families a comfort shawl at the time of their loved one’s donation so they don’t have to leave empty handed. Families can wrap themselves in the comfort shawl to feel close to their loved one.

Instructions:

Shawls should be knitted or crocheted.  A rectangle size of 30 inches by 50 inches is perfect. Muted tones in blues and greens, or neutral colors are best; bright colors or pastels (festive colors) are not appropriate. Find several patterns (Prayer Shawl, Court Afghan, Sideways Shawl and Sister's Shawl), as provided by the organization.
