As Summer Winds Down, Join us in Yellow Springs!

Welcome to the Yellow Springs Community Library Blog! The summer is winding down and fall is right around the corner, and the Yellow Spring Community Library has exciting programs planned for the late summer and early fall!  Below is an abbreviated list of some of our programs for all ages that will be offered in August and September.   • All ages of children and families are welcome to join our end of Summer Reading Club Bookmobile Party!, opens a new window Friday, August 1st from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM join us outside and in the meeting room!
    • We will have a wonderful time of bouncing in a bounce house, purchasing books from the bookmobile, stomping rockets, Big Jenga and Connect Four and eating yummy pretzels and slushies. 
  • Baby Song and Rhyme Time, opens a new window will start a more formal program with Nancy Lineburgh on Wednesdays, August 13th and 20th from 1:30-11:15 AM.      
    • She will enrich our time together with a musical baby time for 6 months- 3 year olds.  These Wednesdays will continue with songs, rhymes and playtime each Wednesday throughout August and September. 
  • Preschool Storytime, opens a new window, for ages 3-5 years, will begin again on Friday, August 15th from 10:30 AM- 11:15 PM.  Our gatherings will continue each Friday through September 26th and beyond.      
    • Come hear stories, rhymes, and do crafts related to themes of Back to School, Grandparent’s Day and Peace Day. 
  • Afterschool Tuesday, opens a new window will begin on Tuesday, August 26th from 2:45- 3:45 PM.  Ages 6-12 year olds are welcome to join us for an ice cream social.      
    • This will be a program to bring in a new year of learning and growing.  Each Tuesday will feature more programs full of games, arts and crafts and fun activities and presenters. 
  • The Beauty of the Butterfly, opens a new window program is on Wednesday, Aug. 20 from 5:00pm - 6:30pm for adults.      
    • Patrons will use embossing folders, die cuts, glitter, book pages, ribbon and radiant pearls to make a collection of stunning cards. This program requires patrons to register and slots fill up fast, but there will be a waiting list. 
  • Starting in September, Yellow Springs Library will be offering a Zentangle Art, opens a new window class for adults.
    • What is Zentangle, you ask? Zentangle is an easy to learn, relaxing, and fun way to create beautiful images by drawing structured patterns. These patterns are called tangles and you create tangles with combinations of dots, lines, simple curves, s-curves and orbs. Putting them all together culminates in Zentangle art.
    • A certified Zentangle instructor, Dione Greenberg, will be teaching the classes, which will be held monthly on the 2nd Tuesday of each month from 12:30pm - 2:00pm. (Check the calendar, as every now and then time and date will need to be changed.) All needed supplies will be available to be used during the class. 
  • Wanting to proactively stay "on the ball" with balance? Come learn ankle, knee and hip strategy to core stability to freshen your body's stance and strength on August 12th from 1:00 pm - 2:00pm at Better Balance through Exercise, opens a new window with Andrew Brody.      
    • Andrew will address higher level balance activities and exercises for adults of all ages.
