Lady in the Lake, Week 1

Welcome to the Online Book Club discussion of Lady in the Lake by Laura Lippman. 

The Online Book Club, if you've never joined us before, is a book discussion group that takes place entirely online. Each week, I write a new blog post that talks about different aspects of the book, and you can interact directly with me and other readers by leaving your comments. Lady in the Lake tells the story of Madeline Schwartz, a pampered housewife who decides to leave her privileged life to try to find passion and meaning. She's interested in leaving her mark on the world, so she joins a search party to find a missing girl. This assistance leads her to a job at the city newspaper where she finds an unsolved murder case that no one seems to be paying attention to. Maddie decides to investigate, talking to all sorts of people throughout the city. But, her doggedness to solve the case soon brings tragedy and turmoil to herself and those around her.
