End of Summer Reading Catch-up at Fairborn

Welcome back to the next installment of the Fairborn Library Blog!

I know people always say this...but I can't believe summer is going by so quickly! This year's Summer Reading Club at Fairborn has been one of the best and most fun summers in my time working at the library. We have had programs and events nearly every single day in June and July-- from summer lunch with Fairborn Schools and Bread of Hope to an after-hours paint party to so many story times and book clubs. As always, Fairborn showed up to all of these events and it's been the best time seeing you and your families in the library and out at all of the community events.

Now that it's August, I am looking forward to the transition from the end of summer to the back-to-school season while I listen to "August" by Taylor Swift, on repeat. (if there are any Swifties reading this-- I would love to know your favorite era, album, or song in the comments). The start of August also means we have a brand new program calendar to share with you!

We have an amazing selection of programs and events in August and September, but I want to highlight two of them in this post:

  • Fantasy and Science Fiction Book Club on Wednesday August 13 @ 6:30pm: This book club meets on the second Wednesday each month to discuss either a fantasy or a science fiction book. This month we are reading Babel by R.F. Kuang. I have been wanting to read this book ever since it was published in 2022. It is an epic historical fantasy set in 1828 at Oxford University and the Royal Institute of Translation where the students study language, translation, and magic. If you have ever been to one of my book clubs then you know I love a book with a good magic system and this one appears to combine that with dark academia vibes, which I also love! So, I am buzzing with excitement to read this book and to talk about it. I encourage you to check out the book and join me at book club!
  • Fairborn's Birthday Bash on Saturday September 6 @ 2:00pm: This family-friendly event is in partnership with Fairborn's 75th Anniversary Committee. 2025 marks the 75th anniversary of the City of Fairborn so we are going to celebrate with a big birthday party at the library! We will have games, crafts, a balloon artist, and so much more! It's going to be a fun afternoon to celebrate Fairborn together. If you would like to attend, please register here so we can be sure to have enough craft supplies for everyone!

These are only two of the events that are happening at the library; you can check out the full calendar below.

Thank you for reading this far and I'll see you at the library!
