Libraries Rock—and you can too! Make music (or musical instruments) at these programs during this year’s Summer Reading program.

Cardboard Ukulele

Saturday, June 2 at 10:00 a.m. • Kids • Spark Place

Make music with your own custom cardboard ukulele. You will learn to use the laser to cut cardboard forms. Drills and hot glue guns will be used to complete the project.

Make an Instrument

Monday, June 4 at 12:00 p.m. • Kids & Preschoolers • Xenia

We’ll have supplies to make simple instruments like castanets, bell bracelets, rhythm shakers, and drums. Drop in and make one or more to take home!


Found Sounds: Make Your Own Sound Effects

Tuesday, June 5 at 10:30 a.m. • Kids • Jamestown

Thursday, June 7 at 10:30 a.m. • Kids • Bellbrook

Cooking Caravan will be with us for fun with sound effects. A classic story is retold with the help of sound effects. You will be able to change the story when you create your own sound effects with household objects. The Jamestown program is for ages 6–11. The Bellbrook program is for ages 4–12 and will be held at Bellbrook Presbyterian Church.

Music is critical to the development of language and listening skills. Join Miss Stephanie as she teaches a variety of music concepts with fun activities incorporating rhythm, singing, and dancing. For ages 2-6 years and their caregivers.

Help us create a thunderstorm! Create the sounds of a storm using body percussion and homemade instruments to make the sounds of a storm. For ages 6–11.


Baby and Toddler Drum Circle

Join a local musician, Katie Clevenger, and her handmade gourd drums for a unique musical experience geared towards babies and toddlers. For ages 3 and under.

Make a march with mandarin oranges! The Beavercreek program is for grades 6–12, the Spark Place program is for ages 8 and up, and the Yellow Springs program is for ages 8–12.

Make a Cigar Box Guitar

Cigar Box Guitars were first made in the 1800’s and were popular during the Civil War and the Great Depression. You can make one too! All supplies provided.
