Buying Local

Greene County Public Library invests a lot into making sure we have a top-notch collection of books, movies, music, and other materials. But we also make sure that we’re investing in our community by buying locally whenever possible.

“We spend more than half a million dollars locally on materials each year,” says Tamar, the library’s Adult Services Coordinator. That money goes to local bookstores and online book retailers based out of Greene County.

Not everything we buy has local sources, which isn’t surprising given that our materials budget covers a range of purchases including books, DVDs, CDs, audiobooks, ebooks, large print books, online learning services, and wireless hotspots. But everyone who purchases anything for the library—from books to pencils to furniture to computer cords—has been instructed to buy locally whenever feasible to support the area economy and the communities that support us.
