Crazy Rich Asians, Week 1

Welcome to March's Online Book Club discussion! This month, we're reading Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan.

The Online Book Club, if you've never joined us before, is a book discussion group that takes place entirely online. Each week, I write a new blog post that talks about different aspects of the book, and you can interact directly with me and other readers by leaving your comments. Check back each week and see what new topics we're talking about.

Crazy Rich Asians is a contemporary romantic story filled with family drama, incredible riches and luxuries, and lots of gossip. Rachel Chu heads to Singapore with her boyfriend, Nicholas Young, not knowing that his family is both super-wealthy and super-intimidating. As soon as they land, she immediately feels opposition from Nick's family and realizes that she might be in over her head. Rachel has to learn how to operate in this new social sphere, all while trying to stay true to who she is. The book is lots of fun, so I think you'll enjoy reading along with us this month.

If you want to follow along with us, but you aren't interested in reading the book, you can always watch the 2018 movie adaptation, Crazy Rich Asians, starring Constance Wu. Check out the above trailer if you're curious to find out more, and feel free to still leave comments on the blog posts, even if you are only watching the movie and not reading the book.

Make sure to read the prologue and part 1, the first 18 chapters, before joining us next week. I'm excited to hear your thoughts in the comments section.
